The Leh-Manali movie

Our final movie covers the high-altitude ride from Leh to Manali, including the Khardung La north of Leh. One of the most breathtaking rides we’ve ever done, and not only because of the altitude! Hope you’ll enjoy the movie too.

  1. Hello,

Thanks for sharing your experiences … Wonderful!

I am from Belgium as well and have made a trip from Liège to the Chinese border and return in 2012. Planning to go back in 2015. Would be very interested to share your experience regarding the paperwork to get into China.

Bij voorbaat dank voor jullie help.

    Met vriendelijke groet,

    Michel

    • Hi Michel,

you’ll need an agent/guide to enter China with a vehicle. He’ll arrange most of the paperwork (customs, insurance, temporary driving license and a lot more) for you and guide you through customs once you’re there. Start early (we started the paperwork six weeks in advance, but that was an absolute minimum!). Crossing more than one province will take longer and be costlier. Everything can be arranged by email, and you’ll need to provide photocopies of your passport, bike documents, exact travel dates, your planned route, etc.

Riding in China is pretty expensive if you’re by yourself, especially on a motorcycle because the guide will need a car or jeep. You can try to hookup with other travellers whose dates more or less match, and make sure to shop around because agent fees vary greatly.

PS: I’m planning to post some more travel info on this blog, so you might want to check back here in a few weeks or so…

      Good luck!
